working in the yard

Last Saturday, we had a nice cool morning. Bo decided to mow the grass and of course Andrew and I "helped". He is at a really fun age right now and really enjoys pretending and playing. We started out with the 2 of us playing baseball, but the baseball bat quickly turned into a guitar and the tee was a microphone stand. After a mini concert, it was on to the serious stuff... cutting grass!

Ready for Work

Andrew went into our closet and put on Bo's tie and his shoes and proclaimed "I'm ready for work!" Here he is trying to walk down the hall in Bo's shoes. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill little man!

More swimming...

I hate it when Summer is over... but since it is not over yet- we squeezed in another fun trip to the pool. Andrew is such a water baby! He LOVES jumping in and floating around. I LOVE his puddle jumper. Moms- you have to have one of these if your kids can't swim! They are great (and a lot cooler looking than those padded unitard swimsuits!) I am hoping that next year he will be swimming by the end of the summer. Last weekend we took his cousins, Melony and Raven with us. He loves playing with them!

Thank you to our Thank you

Andrew got a sweet note from one of his teachers thanking him for the gift and saying that he was only gone for a couple of days, but they miss him already. I thought that was so sweet! Obviously I am a fan of "Thank You Notes"~ but this is one of the reasons I LOVE his school. The teachers have such good hearts and truly love what they do and love the kids they serve!

One thing that I think is so important, and I hope that I am teaching Andrew, is to be thankful. I think that there is nothing worse than being ungrateful for something. When people work hard and put effort into doing something for you or give you a gift, I think you should express gratitude. I am so thankful for Andrew's school and his sweet teachers that love on him and teach him daily. I get each of them a little present when he moves up to the next class as a "thank you". It is not much, but I do want them to know how much I do appreciate them not just doing their job, but doing it so well. I asked Andrew if he wanted to help me and he said that he wanted to make cards for all his teachers. Here he is writing all his thank you notes. He was very specific when doing them as to which one went to which teacher.

Lazy day at the Lake

We spent Saturday with lots of friends at Mandy & Gary's lake house. I love lazy lake living! We went fishing, tubing, jet skiing and on a couple of boat rides. Not to mention several hours of just floating in the water. The kids had a blast. Andrew was jumping off the pier, floating in the water and loved fishing. He is not real quiet, but luckily, the fish were still biting! He even went on 2 jet ski rides and got to drive the boat! He did not take a nap all day and even stayed awake the whole way home. Needless to say, he slept great last night. Come to think of it, I did too! We were all pretty exhausted. Thanks to Mandy and Gary for a great day!

Beginner 2, here I come!

Mrs. Katie
Miss Alexis
Andrew moves up to the next class tomorrow... this means that he is officially potty trained! Whoo hoo! He is excited to see a lot of his old friends that are a little ahead of him. He would always say "when i get a widdle bit bigger, i gonna be in dat cwass room". Well, tomorrow sweet boy, you are finally a widdle bit bigger! We will miss Mrs, Katie and all the other sweet teachers that he had in Beginner 1. I am SO thankful for their hard work in getting this boy potty trained. I hear that in Beginner 2 they do music for about an hour every day. He will definitely love that! He got to visit the class on Friday and I went in that morning to just meet his new teacher and 2 boys came running up to him and hugged him and they were all laughing and running around. It is so neat to see him interact with his friends and remember them from his previous class. These particular boys moved up about 6 weeks ago, so they haven't seen each other in a while. One funny thing from last week... they were discussing what they want to be when they grew up. Andrew said "Lightning McQueen" which is pretty funny, since he has never seen "Cars". We did see lots of Lightning McQueen and Cars things at Disney, so maybe that is where he got it from. One of the other little boys said he wanted to be a butterfly. Andrew kept cracking up when ever he told me about it. He thought it was so silly!

Play Date at the Pool

We had a play date with some of Andrew's classmates on Sunday. We met Micah, Kaitlin and Miles at our neighborhood swimming pool. Believe it or not, the 3 other kids were pretty cautious around the water... Andrew was running and jumping in as much as he could. He was going under water and bouncing up, loving every minute of it. Kaitlin's mom didn't even bring her bathing suit because she didn't think that Kaitlin would get in the water. By the end of the afternoon, she was jumping to me off the side! It is amazing what peer pressure will do. The kids all had so much fun and were EXHAUSTED at the end of the night. They all slept really good that night!

Wedding Bells

Our friends Karen & Matt were married last weekend at Vulcan. All the girls got together on Wednesday for a lingerie shower/dinner for Karen. The wedding was beautiful and she was the most beautiful bride. We all went to the aloft hotel in Soho for a post-wedding celebration. It was one of the first times in a LONG time that all of our friends were able to go out and relax and we all had babysitters! We laughed a lot! It was a blast. We are so blessed to have a great group of friends. (Photos below courtesy of Shea Crowder Photography)

Guess who got a tractor?

Andrew did! You may remember a month or so ago, we had an incentive for him to start using the potty. He recently got a Little People farm and wanted the tractor to go with it. We told him that if he pooped in the potty 4 times, we would buy him the tractor. Actually, he is now potty trained at 2 years and 7 months. His school has been putting him in underwear since the end of May and we have been working with him at home too. He is now only wearing pull ups when he sleeps. He is evening pooping in the potty almost every day too! We are so proud! I just can't believe how big he is getting and how fast he is growing up! We went to Toy's R Us on Friday and got his tractor, then we went to 2nd and Charles and got some books and DVD's then went out to eat at Cantina. He went potty 3 times while we were there! He stayed dry all day Sunday, even at church and during his nap! He even told me yesterday when we were swimming that he had to go and we jumped out of the pool and sure enough, he went! Yeah Andrew!!!! We love you so much and are so proud of you!!!

UGRS 2011- Destin Trip

We've done it again. I think we started this trip our Junior or Senior year of college. So this is at least our 11th or 12th year all going to the beach. We have done bachelorette parties, and several of us have gone while pregnant... this year that honor went to our friend Jennifer, who is do in October with baby Bo (short for Bowles...not our Bo). This year, we were plagued by rain.. for 3 days, but we still managed to have a blast. We played in the ocean like we were little kids, jumping waves in the rain. We had wonderful dinners and stayed out WAY too late! It was so nice to be away and not have any real responsibilities. I even rode a mechanical bull, but I am not brave enough to put a picture of that on the internet~ha! I am so blessed by this sweet group of girls. It is crazy to think that we formed our friendship in 1996, 15 years ago.

Bo's Birthday

We celebrated Bo's 34th birthday with his family and a delicious dinner and some yummy cupcakes. Andrew LOVES being with his cousins, so he had lots of fun. It s so hard for us to get him to eat when we are around a lot of people. He is just too social! (wonder where he gets that?) Bo and I met in 1994, 17 years ago when he was 17. We have now known each other longer than we didn't know each other. I am definitely a better person for having him in my life. Happy Birthday to the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you!!

Keep Praying...

Keep praying for all those that were affected by the April 27 tornado. 3 months have passed, but there is still so much to be done. Our core group met with a sweet family a few weeks ago and saw first hand the damage to their home, and their neighborhood. There are some tough decisions to be made by these folks. Please pray that we can help guide them in the right direction. Pray for us to know what to do and when to do it. Pray that they will not get frustrated with the system and the slow response. Pray for their spiritual strength. Keep giving to the red cross or any other organization. Just because this is not on the news every night does not mean that people are OK. They are not. Luckily Jackie, Chris and Larry were not hurt and their home is salvageable. The same can't be said for some of their neighbors. But what the storm didn't take, looters did. We walked through their house and there was NOTHING left. Jackie found a comb and that was it. People have stolen everything~furniture, clothing, tv's, freezer, personal things. They made it out with a few things but still need a lot to rebuild their lives. And these are just 3 out of the thousands that are affected. Keep these people in your prayers daily!! Thanks!
