Don't Stop Believing

Andrew has been on a bit of a Journey kick lately. Here he is doing what he does best...

Andrew's First Auburn Game

When I was pregnant with Andrew, Bo and I said that we would not take our kid to an Auburn game until they were potty trained and could definitely be big enough to sit through the game and not be crawling all over us. I didn't think that day would get here so soon! After the Samford game a couple of weeks ago, we knew he would be ready and would do great. We were so proud of him. Auburn beat Samford 35-16. He got to see the band, and Aubie and loved seeing the eagle fly down and yelled Waaaaaaaar Eagle, Hey!
Practicing his ticket scalping. "Who needs 3 together?"
Loving it!
My favorite little tiger.
My favorite boys!
Halftime was definitely the highlight of the day. Andrew undoubtedly loved the band and here you can see him being the drum major and directing the band who was playing to our side.

Too Much Fun!

NYC- Foo Fighters and UK Basketball

In New York.... concrete jungle where dreams are made of, there's nothing you can't do.-Rihanna
Ahhh, the big apple. I have missed you. You still smell and feel the same though. Thanks for not changing. You were always perfect. Bo and I decided what better way to celebrate our anniversary than doing 3 of the things we love- traveling, sporting events and concerts! So we went to New York to see the Foo Fighters and watch Duke/Michigan State and Kansas/Kentucky at Madison Square Garden. We arrived Monday afternoon and after checking in to our hotel we went to Eataly- a really cool Italian...compound. It was a restaurant/market with EVERYTHING you could imagine. We had delicious pizza and ravioli. It was right across the street from this beauty... The flat iron building.
Then we went to Penn Station where we caught the train to Newark, NJ. We had fantastic seats for an AWESOME rock and roll concert- The Foo Fighters! We saw a little boy there that was 5 years old. It was his first concert. I don't think that the language at the Foo Fighters is appropriate for a 5 year old, but couldn't help but thinking about taking Andrew to his first concert. I wonder what it will be. In a related story- Bruce Springsteen just announced he is touring again. Hmmm.
Rock and Roll!
The great Taylor Hawkins
The very talented and funny Dave Grohl.
Tuesday we met some friends at Rockefeller Center and ate a delicious lunch at the Rockefeller Cafe as we watched some ice skaters and the Christmas tree being put up. Then we went shopping! It was super fun an Bo made me feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. We didn't have near enough time to cover all the places we wanted to go, but that just leaves things for us to do when we go back. We had fantastic seats at the Garden for these games. Center court and VIP hospitality passes- free snacks and drinks, score! We got to watch coach K beat Bob Knights record for the most wins and got to watch the Cats beat Kansas. We met up with Bo's Uncle Paul and cousins Neil and Nathan at the game.
We all went out to dinner after the game (at midnight). Then Nathan came with us to go to the Empire State building which was supposed to close at 2AM, but it closed at midnight. We were pretty bummed. Again- more things to do when we go back. It was all too quick of a trip, but we had a blast and packed a lot into 2 days. We both were excited to get home to our little guy.
One fun thing about being a kid, is that when your mom and dad go away, they always bring you back a surprise. We brought Andrew back a wristband just like Dave Grohl wears and a couple of guitar picks. Needles to say, he was pumped!

Papa's Birthday

We got to celebrate Papa on Sunday with a delicious lunch at Mom's house. Andrew's cousins were there and they all played so great together. After lunch they ended up picking up acorns out of the yard. It was like an Easter egg hunt- a race to see who could get the most. On the way home, Andrew told me he was going to feed his to the reindeer on Christmas!

Samford Game

This was officially Andrew's First College Football Game. It was a beautiful day that day and we had a blast. We were only going to stay through half time so he could see the band and cheerleaders. He did not want to leave. He loved watching everything, especially Spike the bulldog. (Although he did NOT want to have his picture made with him). He convinced us to stay for a hot dog. I mean, what kind of parents are we if we don't get the kid a dog at his first game? It was great and we are excited to take him to his first AUBURN game this weekend. Ironically, they are playing Samford! War Eagle!

Halloween 2011

It's Halloweeeeeeen, It's Haloweeeeeeen... This is a song that Andrew has been singing a lot lately from a Diego movie. It has helped him get ready for Halloween. I started asking him what he wanted to be for Halloween and he said Woody. I thought, cool, easy, no problem. Then a few days later it was Buzz. Again, easy. Then it was Mickey Mouse. Hmmm not sure he would wear the ears and not sure how I would get this costume... Then it was a fireman. PERFECT. He has been really into the Fresh Beat Band and there is an episode he would always watch and one of them was a fireman. PERFECT. We started looking for costumes, but he only wanted a RED fireman outfit, and I don't know if you have looked lately, but most of them are black and yellow. I found an awful, cheap, tacky one online and he LOVED it. So we ordered it. He already had the hat from Mimi a while back and we went to Wal-Mart and got a black water hose and cut it off for him to carry. He pretended to put fires out all over the house.
Here he is in action... Then the costume came in the mail. He was pumped... until I tried to get him to wear it. Nope, no, no, no, not gonna do it! I thought well maybe when he is ready, he will wear it. You will probably remember from a previous post that he was a "coach" for trunk or treat because he refused the fireman costume. Well Mimi kept him after that and decided to take him to the fire station to meet a fireman. He met Ben who let him drive the truck, ring the bell and try on the hat and jacket. He was pumped again and wanted to be "Ben" for Halloween. Awesome, now he is ready. Halloween was on a Monday (which I think is crazy to do this holiday during the week- cant we just make it the last Friday in October every year??) and when he got home from school I made him eat vegetables before we went on the door to door candy binge. Ready to put on your fireman costume? Nope, no, no, no, not gonna do it! Here we go again. He wanted to wear basketball shorts and a jersey. After a couple of rounds of tears, we all agreed on the "coach" costume and were off! We met up with our neighbors and he loved running from house to house. He had a great time and the last house gave out a Capri Sun. He was so excited about that! It was too funny!

Update 2 1/2-3 years

So I just found all this wonderful info that I forgot to post. This was written back in August. Basically for me so I can remember what our daily routine is during this stage of life. Not much has changed about this over the last couple of months. I will try to do another recap when he is officially 3 (which is only a month away).

Mornings-Andrew will wake up anywhere between 6 and 7. If he gets up any earlier than that, he will usually go right back to sleep. We are leaving his gate open now at night so sometimes I wake up with that sweet boy staring me in the face. (It only scares me to death once or twice a week) I just can’t get used to it. I will be sound asleep then- BOOM, there he is. Mornings are Bo’s time with him. I am busy getting ready for work and they are busy playing. He will want to put on his basketball shorts and shirt after he gets out of his PJ’s and before he puts on what he is going to wear to school. His favorite show right now is The Fresh Beat Band on Nick Jr. So most mornings consist of watching Fresh Beats on the couch with daddy eating mini blueberry muffins. Some mornings he changes it up a bit and will watch some music DVD. Generally he wakes up and is ready to get moving and in a good mood. If we have to wake him up… whole other story. He says “NO” to everything and doesn’t want to do anything from getting out of bed to getting in the car. Those mornings are tough.

Days- He is loving the class he is in right now. There are about 24 kids in his class, so he has lots of friends. They are great with this kids though. If anyone gets out of line, they go to time out. He tells me that he goes to time out when he does and it is usually for talking. Hmmm… can’t blame the kid for being social. His best friend is also named Andrew and he says that Ms. La Tronda is also his best friend. At school he is learning to trace and color in the lines. He will come home and help me trace then ask me to do it all by himself. He really gets in to playing school at home. It is so much fun to figure out what his day is like by watching him pretend. One of us always in trouble and the other is always being good. One thing they do at school is Praise and Worship and they have an Assembly. Praise and Worship consists of music from the Hillsong Kids CD- and then Coach Larry will read from the bible and do a devotional. Andrew got to be Coach’s special bible holder all week one week. Apparently that is a big deal around there! Anyway I asked Coach about the music and I downloaded the CD from itunes. Can I tell you just how sweet it is to hear your baby in the back seat singing about Jesus being his best friend? ADORABLE. I cried. It was a precious thing for sure! He knows almost all the songs and we listen to them on the way to school and on the weekends. It is a nice break from ACDC and the gang. They also do Show and Tell on Fridays… NEWS FLASH. He has been in this class for 5 weeks now and I had no idea! He told me last week on the way home “mom, I didn’t bring anything for show and tell”. Me-“Do all the kids bring something?” AMK-“Yes and I didn’t bring anything” Me- “Great” Now, what do I send him with? A guitar, some drumsticks, his favorite Led Zeppelin DVD? He still naps about 2 hours at school, but usually shortens that on the weekends. We just have too much fun on the weekend to sleep!

Nights- We usually eat between 5:30-6:00. His favorite meal is Taziki’s Chicken and rice. He also likes hot dogs, corn dogs and ham roll ups. He loves all kinds of fruit and will eat corn and green beans for veggies. He does NOT like any kind of pasta or mashed potatoes. He is getting in the habit of saying his prayers before we eat. It is so funny to see him get real serious and almost close his eyes and he talks real low and mumbled, then ends with a resounding AMEN! One thing that we do is eat dinner every night as a family. I am glad that we have started this and I hope that it continues every night through high school! I think it is so important. Don’t get me wrong. There are many nights that we wish he would just go play so we can enjoy some peace and quiet, but I wouldn’t trade it at all! After dinner we usually have about an hour to play before it is bath time. 99% of the time we play concerts, but some nights we read or play with Little People or Legos too. His imagination is really developing and I love to watch him pretend! Every night before bath we rock out to ACDC’s Rock and Roll Train. He loves taking a bath or shower (once he gets in there…getting there is an occasional struggle). He plays with his Little People and usually makes all sorts of tacos and drinks with his toys. He is so good at pretending in the tub or shower. He could stay in there for hours some nights. After bath we read a couple of books or watch a quick song or two on my phone via YouTube. We all say our prayers and then I lay down with him for about 10 minutes and he is out! (Sometimes I am too!)

Guess who had a great day at school???

MY BOY! I was so excited to come home today when Bo told me that Andrew had a surprise for me. I thought for a minute... oh no, not another blue note. But instead A YELLOW NOTE! It said "Andrew had a great day today. He took part in class and had a great time singing songs. He also showed obedience which made my heart happy." His other teacher said "My heart was happy too!" and the director wrote "Big Boy!! Awesome Job!! VERY proud of you!!" And it had a bunch of stickers on it which is a HUGE deal to him. YEAH!! I am so proud of him!

AMK quotes

This morning on the way to school...
AMK: Look mom!! Do you see that bird?
WGK: Yes, I see it.
AMK: I see it too. No, its not a bird. Its an eagle. Like the band, The Eagles
WGK: Oh it is?
AMK: Yeah, like Don Henley

Sunday afternoon, wanting to go outside
AMK: (to me) sweet princess, will you get my jacket for me please?
WGK: What did you just say?
AMK: sweet princess, can you get my jacket now?
WGK: Did your daddy tell you to ask me that way?
AMK: yes
WGK: (to Bo) I can't believe you have him buttering me up like that.
Bo: I don't know what you are talking about. I didn't tell him to say anything. Seriously.
-He just called me sweet princess out of the blue!- Love that sweet boy.
