Field trip to Desoto Caverns

Still enjoying being off and spending time with BOTH of my boys.  Andrew's class had a field trip to Desoto Caverns in Childersburg, AL.  I had never been and was really amazed at this huge cave and all its beauty.  Something that most of the 4 year olds didn't really appreciate!  The weather was nice and cool that day too.  We were able to go underground and watch a cool laser light show and tour the cave and learn about the history.  Our teenage tour guide would tell us about a certain area then say "are there any  questions?" and about 5 little hands would shoot up in the air and some would ask questions and others would say things like "I have a cat at home" or "Does Batman live here?"  LOL.  After the cave tour we panned for gem stones then rode the bumper cars.  This big boy took a nap on the way home.  I thought it was because he was so tired... turns out he was getting sick. :(

new drums!!!

Our sweet friends Laura and Will wanted to give Andrew their old drum set.  They were no longer using it, but wanted to make sure it would go to a good home.  We went over for dinner and afterwards, Will blindfolded Andrew and told him that he had a big surprise for him.  He was so excited.  Thanks so much guys!  We will put them to good use!

At Will's 8 week check up our pediatrician heard a heart murmur and advised us that we needed to see a cardiologist to confirm the diagnosis and see if there was anything that needed to be done.  The friday after our trip to Texas we went to see Dr. Carlo at UAB.  They did an EKG and an ultra sound of his little heart.  Will did great during the EKG. He slept through the whole thing!  He only woke up when we had to take the sticky pads off his chest and back.  We watched the ultra sound and saw that there is a tiny hole between the bottom 2 chambers of his heart.  The doctor said that it was NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT and that it should close up on its own.  Even if it doesn't close, it should never cause him any further problems.  Praise The Lord!  Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts.
On another note... Bo & I really only told a few of our friends and our family about Will's heart before the appointment.  I did write a post about it though as an outlet for me and of course to document this moment in his life.  I was amazed by all the people who said that they were praying for him and knew about it.  Thanks for taking the time to read this blog and keep up with our family.

2 months

August 6.  2 months are in the books!  Will is an AMAZING baby.  Really!  We are SO blessed by him.  He still only cries when he is wet, sleepy or hungry.  He is smiling all the time now and even laughs every now and then.  Sometimes he laughs in his sleep.  I just wonder what he could be dreaming about.  He has been to Gulf Shores and Dallas in the last 2 months, so he is very well traveled for a little guy.  If he continues to be this easy going, we will be taking him to lots of places for sure.  He eats 5-6 ounces at each feeding and those are usually every 3-4 hours.  He is filling out and getting some chunkyness to him.  His "oooohs" and "Ooooo's" and gurgles melt my heart.  We have lots of conversations every day!  He is usually the most talkative right after his bottle.  He burps great too.  Sometimes you can just sit him up and "BURP!"  He is sleeping 7-8 hours every night!  We just started letting him sleep in his crib at night too and he is doing great. I just love him to pieces and thank God every day and night for what a wonderful addition he is to our family.

Trip to Texas to Say Goodbye to our Pops

We found out on Saturday morning that my grandfather, BJ Monroe, had passed away.  He had just turned 88 years old.  My mom had been out in Texas with he and my grandmother while he was sick.  God blessed him with a wonderful life!  He has two daughters, 3 grand children and 6 great grand children.  He was a WWII veteran as well.  I am proud to be a part of his family!  I am in awe of my sweet grandmother and her grace during this unimaginable time of grief.  They were married for 66 years!  I can't imagine what she is going through every minute of every day learning to live without him.  They were so in love and such a great example of what a beautiful, loving marriage looks like.  I am so thankful for their example.  I am also thankful that we have spent several days with them each summer for almost the past 10 years.  Before that, we really didn't get to see them much because of the distance.  Once a year when we were little was about all we got.  I am so glad that we have the moments and memories over the last few years.  I am so thankful that Andrew was able to spend time with them when he was a baby.  Pops got to meet Will via Skype before he passed.  I know he loved him!  Other than the sadness of the trip, we had a nice visit with my family. The funeral was so nice.  The preacher was excellent in talking about Pops and his life.  The highlight for me was Andrew and his cousin Ty singing Jesus Loves Me at the end of the funeral.  Precious.    It was  HOT summer in Texas this year.  The day of the burial, it was 105.  There was a nice breeze during the burial service.  Again, amazed by the strength of my grandmother during these moments.

The boys did great on the plane ride.  Bo went with us on the way out and had to come back a couple of days before us.  We made it just fine on the way back. Andrew is a big helper and was just perfect!

Will's Baby Dedication

Sunday, August 4th, was a special day for us.  Will was dedicated at church.  Our sweet friend, Brant Holladay, said a wonderful prayer for Will and our family.  (see video)  We were joined by Grayson Nix, Reese Iffland, & Catherine Files.  I know these kids will be friends for a long time!  After church, we had a small lunch for family back at the house.  We love you sweet Will and are so thankful for you.  I pray that we will be good parents to you and Andrew, and always try to show you how God wants you to live.  We know he has a special plan for you!

Another Saturday Night

Chillin in the tub
Splish Splash!  Will loves his bath!
Andrew and Cory spent the night upstairs in the tent.  One of my very favorite memories of Cory growing up was the night he and Melony spent the night in this same tent about 10 years ago.  That night during his prayer, he thanked God for the pockets inside the tent where he could keep his glasses. It was the sweetest, most innocent prayer and has always reminded me to thank God for the little things.  I loved to hear him lead Andrew in prayer that night.  My heart is so full with love for these 2 boys!

Goo Goo Dolls & Matchbox 20

I really like the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox 20.  They both have songs that will forever be tied to my high school and college days.  Don't you just love it when you hear a song and it takes you to a particular time/place?  Bo's cousins came in town for this and we met them for dinner.  It was great to catch up with Neil and Emily.  We had 4th row seats, which were phenomenal!  It was a great show and a perfect night for a concert at Oak Mtn.

Happy Boy

8 weeks old tomorrow!

I wish that we would have had Skype when I was little.  I love that my dad can see the boys.  Here he is talking with Will.  I also love that I got to FaceTime with my grandparents in Texas.  They were able to meet their newest grandchild that way.  "I love technology...but not as much as you, you see.
